Huge achievement unlocked! Took my first ever Absolute division gold after a couple of hard fought points wins in the Masters NoGi Open @grapplingindustries Vancouver today! I’ve not had a lot of luck in open weight divisions in the past, really feeling the strength and size differential.
Today was no exception on the strength and size front, as both my opponents were in their 30s and in the 230lb weight class, but luck was on my side with some tactical decisions paying off well and my opponents abandoning caution enough for me to score!
Also took my weight class with 3 wins, all by submission.
Monica made it an all gold everything day for Island Top Team, taking her masters purple belt gi and NoGi divisions, winning 4 total matches, 2 via points, and 2 via submission. She displayed great tenacity, fighting through injury to prevail in her return to competition. Neither of us gave up any points in any of our matches, which is always nice!
