On the 9th of December, 2017 60 year old Sensei Garry was graded to Black Belt in BJJ under 4th Degree Brazilian Black Belt, Prof. Marcello Monteiro. The grading took place at the Global BJJ Coach Headquarters in Indianapolis, Indiana. USA.
This makes Sensei Garry the first Australian to be graded to their BJJ Black Belt under the BJJ Coach Association. It was a big event with 14 Black Belts in attendance on the mat and Sensei Garry shared this grading with many others from across the US and overseas including Brown Belt Tsukino Luiz who also graded to Black Belt with Sensei Garry and became the first BJJ Coach Black Belt under Prof. Marcello in Japan.
We all want to congratulate Sensei Garry having spent 2 months away from training due to being in hospital twice and have to have surgery due to a life treating illness, going though these tough times made this grading even more special. Sensei Garry wants everyone to know that no matter how old you are you can succeed in Jiu Jitsu if you commit yourself to your training. I have included some photos of Sensei Garry’s grading.
